Parseable alerts

Connect native alerts and understand state coalescing.

On this page

Prepare alert investigation

The built-in integration accepts Parseable’s native Alertmanager notification payload. You do not need an Alertmanager server or a forwarding service. Prepare a Platform Session and model, then configure read-only log or metric access separately if the agent should investigate beyond the alert payload.

Create the Parseable trigger

Choose Parseable alert in Environment Configuration or create it through the API:

Save the returned receive URL, which ends in /parseable, and the one-time secret. Parseable uses Basic authentication with username sandpi and that secret as the password. It does not use a Platform API token or Sandpi HMAC headers.

Configure the notification target

In Parseable, create an Alertmanager target and associate it with the alert. The following shape matches the integrated v2.9.3 sender:

json
{
  "name": "Sandpi investigation",
  "type": "alertManager",
  "endpoint": "<receiveUrl returned by Sandpi>",
  "username": "sandpi",
  "password": "<one-time webhook secret>",
  "skipTlsCheck": false
}

Choose the Alertmanager target rather than a generic text webhook target so the event retains structured alert identity and status.

Map alert details

Parseable sends an array with labels.alertname, labels.status and optional annotations. Sandpi exposes normalized payload.alertName, payload.status, payload.message, payload.labels and payload.annotations to your template:

text
Investigate alert {{payload.alertName}} in state {{payload.status}}.
Use available read-only diagnostic tools before proposing changes.
Message: {{payload.message}}
Labels: {{payload.labels}}
Annotations: {{payload.annotations}}

The inbound password authenticates delivery only. It does not grant the agent access to Parseable logs or deployment systems.

Choose transitions that start work

Incoming stateSandpi eventDefault result
Triggeredparseable.triggeredCreates work
Not triggeredparseable.resolvedRecords recovery without work
Disabledparseable.disabledRecords disabled state without work

Leave the event filter blank for triggered-only work. Include parseable.resolved or parseable.disabled explicitly to start work for those transitions too.

Use payload filters such as labels.severity = critical to limit which alerts start work. Filtered notifications still record their state transitions and return ignored receipts. Changing a filter does not replay an already recorded state.

Understand repeated notifications

Identity uses sorted alert labels excluding status. Repeated notifications in the same state return the original receipt; changing annotation text alone does not start another task. A recovery followed by another trigger creates new work. The original accepted prompt and target remain immutable.

The v2.9.3 sender supplies no unique occurrence ID. State transitions therefore follow arrival order. Missing recoveries, delayed old notifications and identical-label alert collisions cannot be reliably distinguished from a new occurrence. This is state coalescing, not a guarantee of exactly-once upstream delivery.

Test and inspect a batch

For a manual test, set WEBHOOK_RECEIVE_URL and WEBHOOK_SECRET to the values returned by Sandpi. Use the Parseable URL, not the generic receiver:

sh
curl "$WEBHOOK_RECEIVE_URL" \
  --user "sandpi:$WEBHOOK_SECRET" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '[{"labels":{"alertname":"example-error-rate","status":"triggered"},"annotations":{"message":"Error rate crossed the threshold"}}]'

The receiver accepts 1–60 distinct alert identities within the 1 MiB body limit. Batch state updates, receipts and tasks commit together; failed admission rolls back the entire batch. A retry can reuse the same state without consuming new-delivery capacity.

Native notification receiver

Use the dedicated Parseable receive URL. The request is an array of structured alerts and the response contains the resulting batch receipts. Authentication is Basic with username sandpi and the trigger secret.

Receive native Parseable alert notifications

POST /v1/inbound-webhooks/{webhookId}/parseable

Only for source=parseable triggers. Configure a Parseable alertManager target with this endpoint, username sandpi and password equal to the webhook secret. No Idempotency-Key or Sandpi event headers are required. Send a JSON array of 1–60 Parseable alerts with distinct label identities. Event names are parseable.triggered, parseable.resolved and parseable.disabled. By default only triggered events create work; events can explicitly include other states. An identical current alert state returns its original receipt even if the message changes. A state transition creates a new delivery, so resolution followed by a new trigger can create new work. Identity uses labels excluding status. State, all batch receipts and tasks commit atomically; failed admission rolls back the entire batch. Notifications without an upstream occurrence ID follow arrival order: delayed old state transitions cannot be distinguished from new transitions. Rate, queue and ownership limits are shared with other inbound webhooks.
