}Save data.webhook.receiveUrl and the one-time data.secret. HMAC is the default. To use bearer authentication, set auth: bearer when creating or replacing the definition. Only generic triggers support explicitly unauthenticated auth: none.
Payload filters can restrict fields such as environment = production or status = failed. All filters must match; missing fields produce ignored receipts. Templates are rendered only for admitted work.
Assign a logical event identity
Send Content-Type: application/json, a unique Idempotency-Key for each logical event and, optionally, X-Sandpi-Event. The default event name is event. Set the event name explicitly if the trigger filters named events such as deploy.failed.
Use one stable delivery ID across retries. Reusing it with changed event data returns a conflict. Send a JSON object whose fields match your saved template. Events cannot replace the configured instructions, Session or model.
Sign HMAC requests
Send X-Sandpi-Timestamp as Unix seconds and X-Sandpi-Signature as sha256= followed by the hexadecimal HMAC-SHA256 digest. The signed UTF-8 bytes are exactly:
timestamp + "\n" + deliveryId + "\n" + event + "\n" + rawJsonBodyTimestamp freshness is five minutes. Serialize the payload once and sign the exact bytes you send. Reformatting JSON, adding a newline or changing field order after signing changes those bytes and invalidates the signature.
This Node.js example sends one event. Set the returned URL and trigger secret as WEBHOOK_RECEIVE_URL and WEBHOOK_SECRET first. Keep DELIVERY_ID unchanged when rerunning it after an ambiguous response.
import { createHmac } from "node:crypto";
const deliveryId = process.env.DELIVERY_ID;
const secret = process.env.WEBHOOK_SECRET;
const url = process.env.WEBHOOK_RECEIVE_URL;
if (!deliveryId || !secret || !url) throw new Error("Set DELIVERY_ID, WEBHOOK_SECRET and WEBHOOK_RECEIVE_URL");
const event = "deploy.failed";
const body = JSON.stringify({ deploymentId: "deploy-123", environment: "production" });
const timestamp = String(Math.floor(Date.now() / 1000));
const signature = "sha256=" + createHmac("sha256", secret)
.update(`${timestamp}\n${deliveryId}\n${event}\n${body}`)
.digest("hex");
const response = await fetch(url, {
method: "POST",
headers: {
"Content-Type": "application/json",
"Idempotency-Key": deliveryId,
"X-Sandpi-Event": event,
"X-Sandpi-Timestamp": timestamp,
"X-Sandpi-Signature": signature,
},
body,
});
console.log(response.status, await response.json());Retry with a current timestamp and a new signature while retaining the same delivery ID, event and serialized body. Fix clock drift if otherwise correct signatures fail.
Use bearer authentication
For a trigger configured with auth: bearer, send the trigger secret in Authorization. It is separate from the Platform key used to manage the trigger.
curl "$WEBHOOK_RECEIVE_URL" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $WEBHOOK_SECRET" \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-H 'Idempotency-Key: deploy-123' \
-H 'X-Sandpi-Event: deploy.failed' \
--data '{"deploymentId":"deploy-123","environment":"production"}'Bearer delivery does not need the HMAC timestamp or signature. Delivery identity and filtering still apply.
Explicit public mode
auth: none allows anyone who knows the receive URL to admit work and spend the owner’s quota or prepaid credits. The sender still supplies the event identity, JSON body and required template fields, and normal admission limits apply. A dormant secret is created even for a public trigger; rotate it if you later enable authentication and did not save it.
Verify the receipt
A successful receiver response means the event was durably accepted or ignored, not that the Run finished. Inspect the receipt and follow its execution reference. See delivery and recovery for conflicts, filters and retries.
Event receiver fields and response
The receiver accepts a sender-defined JSON object. Its required authentication and identity headers depend on the configured source and mode, as described above. Follow the returned receipt’s execution reference to observe work.
Receive an external event
/v1/inbound-webhooks/{webhookId}Authentication is determined by the trigger: hmac (default), bearer, or explicitly none. Generic events require Idempotency-Key (1–128 characters), optionally X-Sandpi-Event, and for HMAC X-Sandpi-Timestamp (Unix seconds within 5 minutes) and X-Sandpi-Signature (sha256=HMAC-SHA256 of timestamp, delivery ID, event name (default event), and exact request bytes joined with newline separators). GitHub requires X-Hub-Signature-256, X-GitHub-Delivery, and X-GitHub-Event. Acceptance and Run creation commit atomically; duplicate deliveries return the original receipt, changed payloads with the same ID return 409. GitHub also deduplicates identical event bodies with different delivery IDs. Accepted work is retained when configuration is disabled or deleted. Requests are limited to 1 MiB and 60 new deliveries per trigger per minute. GitHub ping and filtered events produce ignored receipts. Platform targets require kind=platform and an existing Session and priced model.

|---|---|---|---|
path: webhookId | string · min length 1; max length 200 | Yes | Inbound trigger identifier returned when the webhook is created. |
header: idempotency-key | string | ConditionalGeneric events (all authentication modes) | Required for generic events: stable logical delivery ID (1–128 characters, no whitespace). Retain it with the same body across retries. |
header: x-sandpi-event | string | No | Generic event name. Defaults to event; must match configured event filters. It is included in the HMAC signed bytes. |
header: x-sandpi-timestamp | string | ConditionalGeneric HMAC authentication | Required for generic HMAC: Unix seconds within five minutes of the receiver clock. Re-sign retries with the current timestamp. |
header: x-sandpi-signature | string | ConditionalGeneric HMAC authentication | Required for generic HMAC: sha256= followed by the hexadecimal HMAC-SHA256 of timestamp, delivery ID, event name and raw JSON body joined with newlines. |
header: authorization | string | ConditionalGeneric bearer authentication | Required only for generic bearer mode: Bearer followed by the trigger secret. This is not a Platform API key. Omit for explicit public mode. |
header: x-hub-signature-256 | string | ConditionalGitHub events | Required for GitHub: sha256= followed by GitHub’s HMAC-SHA256 signature of the exact raw request body. |
header: x-github-delivery | string | ConditionalGitHub events | Required for GitHub: delivery identifier supplied by GitHub. |
header: x-github-event | string | ConditionalGitHub events | Required for GitHub: webhook event name supplied by GitHub; the PR adapter handles pull_request and ignores ping. |
